Local Rebellion: 28th - 31st August 2020
UK Rebellion: 1st September 2020
We are at an intersection of global crises
Climate breakdown, Covid-19, racial injustice – all are symptoms of a toxic system that is driving us to extinction – a system built on economic inequality, extraction, the destruction of nature, and exploitation.
We cannot carry on like this. The system is killing us.
2020 has been a year of tipping points.
Everywhere you look, a collective rage is growing.
People know the truth: the Government is failing to do what’s necessary to keep us safe. They ignored the warnings about coronavirus and let tens of thousands die. Now they’re ignoring warnings of 4°C of warming from their official Committee on Climate Change, a warning that could result in billions of deaths – with racially marginalised communities, and those in the Global South on the immediate front line.
The social contract between the government and its citizens is broken.
Enough is enough.
We have an opportunity NOW as we emerge from the pandemic to make the change necessary for a better world, but business-as-usual is fighting to regain its hold.
We can’t let that happen.
The Northern Rebellion Returns
From 1 September, Extinction Rebellion North will once again appeal to our government to take the urgent action necessary to protect our future.
The rebellion will take place in 3 locations:
Details of an event near the city centre to be released shortly - keep the date free.
On that day the UK Parliament starts sitting after the summer: but rebels in the south are not going to let them back in until they agree to start anew with justice, care and life at the heart of it. From the 1st we will peacefully blockade the UK Parliament in London until they promise that the first thing they’ll do is debate our 3 demands.Join the Rebellion
Countdown to Rebellion
In order to build pressure towards our international rebellion, there will be a Countdown to Rebellion starting 28th August with local groups around the country invited to hold their own actions in their own regions, to galvanize rebels in readiness for action and to show the Government the Rebellion is coming.
Extinction Rebellion groups are distributed widely across the UK; in villages, towns and cities across Scotland, Wales and England, so our Rebellion will also reflect this. Beautiful, creative, high impact actions focused on our frustrations at government inaction and local issues will occur like waves in regions and nations across the bank holiday weekend, popping up all over the place, leading to a direct show of strength from September 1st.Join your local group

Find below the design and messaging document for the upcoming rebellion which will help better align on our message this September. This toolkit aims to help us speak as one diverse voice when we take to the streets again.View The Rebellion Messaging and Design Toolkit
For rebels who are still shielding or unable to travel to one of the three cities, there will be a Digital Rebellion. This will involve spamming the social media accounts, email addresses, and telephone lines of government offices, shutting them down online. More on this to come soon.
Join the Rebellion Broadcast to get involved in the conversation. We invite everyone who is sick of the lies, injustice, inequality and harm, to join us. Because we want to live. Crisis does not have to mean collapse.
